Media’s Faulty Contribution

Image

This picture pertains to the recent Boston Marathon bombing. The boxes depict president Obama, the media, and citizens. Obama is stating that the government is conducting investigations in determination of who was behind the bombing and that people should not be jumping to conclusions. The media fallaciously reports that the bombing was a terrorist attack connected to the Arab jihadist.

Media acts as a vital linkage institution between the United States government and the people. (Bardes,2009) The people learn of government action mainly through the media. When the media reports an issue, the people have no choice but to accept what has been presented. If the media interprets something fallaciously or jumps to conclusion, it affects a mass of people. For instance, the Boston bombing was blamed on terrorist organizations within the middle east and also blamed upon illegal immigrants when the bombing actually happened because of actual naturalized American citizens influenced by jihadist groups close to Chechnya. Linkage institutions may be subject to bias and partiality. They may be subject to leaning either to conservative or a liberal standpoint, but they must still consistently present the news in a accurate and factual manner so that they are not resulting to telling lies. The number one way people are informed of the news is through media and by no other means.

Presidency

Image

This political cartoon reports of Barrack Obama’s recent visit to the Middle East. While there he was able to successfully provide settlements to martial conflicts between Israel and other Arab countries and the Iranian threats. The cartoon depicts the president, although successful in the resolution of international issues, is un able to fix issues at home such as the economic problems, according to many, ongoing since his first day in office.

Since the beginning of his presidency, Barrack Obama has been identified as a man with very persuasive rhetoric. Because of his power to persuade, a key ingredient to an effective president, he has been able to settle many international dilemma. He has been able to succeed in his role as Chief Diplomat. Although successful in this role, Chief Diplomat happens to be only one of five roles in which he plays. (Bardes,2009) One role is Chief Legislator, which many people persistently believes he fails at. His public approval rates are low in regards to his approval rating at the beginning of his first term. His ratings are dropping down to almost Bush’s level.(Presidential Approval Ratings- Gallup.com) As chief legislator, many believe that he has not been reliable in his actions he has promised in reparation of the United States economy. He has not been effective in helping congress in the process or bring effective new policies to the table
