Gun Control

Ever since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting last December, the public opinion (Tiller, 82) has been pertinent with an agenda setting issue, gun control and safety. For the past five months politicians have attempted to litigate new gun control codes and restrictions. In observance of the matter, two political parties have been clashing head to head in regards to whether or not citizens should have the right to bear arms or more code and restrictions should be placed on the qualification of bearing arms. The Democrats have taken the stance of placing strict laws to the point where many guns should be banned where as the Republicans in joint with the NRA believe that tighter security measures for the purchasing of guns and ammunition should be more detailed.

The picture above show that gun rights end at the barrel, meaning that when a bullet leaves the barrel of the gun in a misused manner, gun rights will demising. On the other hand, control starts at the trigger. Controlling the trigger determines whether or not the bullet gets to leave in such a misused manner in the first place. In my opinion, the Republicans, NRA, and gun enthusiast, mostly in the mid region of the United States, believe tighter gun control laws should be placed. The government should determine whose finger should be on the trigger. The democrats and much of the urban demography, family of victims who lost their loves in gun massacre, on the other hand believe in gun rights, whether the bullet gets to leave any gun in the first place. Lifting gun rights would be a foolish move in such a democratic government which was built because minute men had the rights to bear arms. Tighter gun control, determining who is behind the gun and whose finger is the trigger, would be in the best interest of the people. It still enables every capable citizen, with a clean background and  mental stability, to protect themselves. The public feel that they have been violated because of the numerous accounts of gun violence back in 2012, but they are not aware that they are endangering their own rights by limiting the methods in which they may protect themselves.
